Workshops
Imagination Healing Circle
Using the Imagination Healer toolkit, we will explore the imagination and learn to heal ourselves through play. We'll play group games such as round-robin storytelling, guided visualization, rites of passage, call and response vocal noises, and trance journeywork with drumming. Play-act as a different creature, or an aspect of yourself you don't often have the chance to express. Become a child once again and reclaim your power to create the world you truly want to live in. Basic art supplies will be available, and you are welcome to bring your own. Please bring music you'd like to share as well - we can all DJ. This class was developed to provide a participatory, collectively-held container for waking up our extended creative capacities. This is a safe space for you to explore. Hosted monthly from 2011-2013, Oakland, CA. |
The Future of Festival Culture
Festival culture has grown from Woodstock to global mainstream raves, and the time is now to integrate into sustainable societies. Millions of people participate in festivals, seeking personal transformation and connection. The political and education landscape today means that youth are empowered to transform society through business, policy and land-based communities. Together let’s imagine the pathways open at the evolutionary edge of festival culture: This workshop explores:

Planet Medicine
This talk will explore some facets of entheogenic activism. As more and more people globally are reconnecting with plant medicines, how are communities integrating the individual transformative experience with collective well-being and responsibility? Magenta will give an introduction to how Bloom Network serves to connect activist efforts with spiritual wisdom and sustainable business. We'll draw out the connections among herbalism, entheogens, habitat restoration and social justice issues facing Indigenous folks.
Presented at Women's Entheogenic Symposium, CIIS 2015.

Sacred Activism, co-taught with Armando Davila
This workshop gives participants an introduction to frameworks of liberation around issues of race, class and gender. After a look at common problems and solutionary tools, we break off into groups of 3 to share what we each care about, and how we express that care. Care can stem from righting an injustice, or from expressing one's love and joy through purposeful means. This workshop provides a safe space for participants to build community and be witnessed in their struggles and dreams.
Presented at Lightning in a Bottle Festival 2015.

Introduction to Trance Journeywork
In this workshop, we’ll journey to find an animal spirit to help you work in the realm of dreams or spirit. We'll learn fundamental trance journeywork techniques. A spirit guide (animal or otherwise), can assist you in journeying for your own healing or someone else’s. It may communicate with you in images, actions or other sensations. You can also think of this as working with your psyche, your inner landscape of dreams. This workshop is designed to help you tap into an extended intuitive and transpersonal awareness which we don't often access in day-to-day life. I can also facilitate and teach more advanced journeywork in groups or one on one. |

Language Magic
An introduction to conscious language and the power of symbols. We'll discuss ritual use of "conscious languages" such as Sanskrit, Aramaic and Tibetan. An overview of sigils will give participants tools to practice chaos magick, and a deeper understanding of the magical power of corporate and government logos. Indigenous languages from the Amazon, such as Quechua and Shipibo, are given as examples of highly contextual languages that have more interwoven points of reference than English's inherent objectification. Shipibo textiles are yet another example of conscious language, where the images correspond to a specific transmission and constitute a language in themselves. From there we'll look at the subtle language of our bodies and those of plants and bacteria around us - how chemicals, hormones, electricity and magnetism make up a rich language that exchanges across organisms and species. To loosen up our linguistic experience, we'll make creative sounds together throughout this workshop. |
After seeing these examples of how energy flows, we'll do three journeys together to explore psychic communication:
1) In pairs, we touch hands and send a specific feeling - the receiver shares back what they experienced, and see how close they got it.
2) Remote sending - Each person telekinetically "sends" themselves or a loved one some kind of symbol - in one week, check in with that person to see if it showed up in their reality and how.
Optional: If outside and near trees, we can do a blindfolded partner exercise to communicate with trees.
Presented at The Sugar Shack, Los Angeles, 2011.
